Three Reasons Why Your Washer May Be Doing "The Wobble"

Is your washer doing "The Wobble" and you don't know how to make it stop? Wobbling could be a sign of a serious problem or just a sign that you need to be loading your washer differently. Learn three reasons for your washing machine wobbles with the guide that follows.

Overfilling the Drum

If you overfill your washer, the drum inside of it will not be able to support the weight. The clothes may settle on one side of the washer more than the other and then cause the drum to become unbalanced and wobble back and forth inside of the washing machine. To avoid this form of wobbling, be sure that you do no overfill your washer. Fill the drum until the clothes reach the bottom rim of the ring around the top of the washing machine drum. Do not push the clothes down to try to jam as many into the drum as you can either. This will lead to the drum being overfilled.

Improper Leveling

If your washer is not level, it will rock back and forth as the drum spins inside of it. There are small legs under the washer that can be screwed with a wrench to make the washer go higher or lower. Attempt to rock the washer to see which legs need to be adjusted. Turn the legs that are too short clockwise with the wrench until they are the same length as the other legs. When you are finished, the washing machine should be level and not rock anymore.

Worn Parts

If your washing machine is more than a few years old, there is a good chance that the parts in the machine have simply become worn and need to be replaced. If you have tried leveling the machine and ensured that you are not overfilling it, have a repair person come to look at the washer. He or she can quickly determine if there is anything wrong with it and what parts need to be replaced. He or she can also give you an estimate for what the repairs could cost so that you can make an informed decision about whether to have the machine repaired or if it would be a better choice to simply replace it.

Using a washing machine that wobbles for an extended period of time is not good for the machine. The parts inside of the machine have to work harder to keep the drum spinning and could actually ruin your machine. An inspection of your machine will take very little time and allow you to be sure that you know what needs to be done to get your machine working properly again.
